Rationale of the Program
Business Management as a profession had emerged in response to the social, economic and business environment needs. The profession has shown a continuous and tremendous growth in the business world, and its need becomes mandatory for every kind of organizations. Business Management, in modern context of business is hardly wanted, because now a days the success of one company over another is due to the difference in leadership and management of human and non-human resources.
The basic rationale of the program is attributed to the observed continuously flourishing of different organizations in Ethiopia, along with the rapid pace of development of Ethiopian economy over the past decades. Cognizant to the above facts the need assessment conducted by the college shows that still important government and business sectors are managed by traditional managers most of them have education level of less than diploma. Due to globalization, the country as well as private companies is forced to compete with international and multination companies to survive and become successful. Different countries in general, and Ethiopia, in particular host various organizations: private, governmental, profit making, non-profit making, service, manufacturing organizations, etc. The business world is becoming increasingly complex and is facing new and greater challenges continually. The Business Management profession, is a key profession in modern business society, will have to meet these challenges. Given the rapid change in the world business environment and ever-changing organization system, the program needs to provide new skills and knowledge to its graduates who enter the profession.
Business Management is a crucial element in economic growth of a country. It brings together the factors of production: money, machinery, human resource, methods, markets and material to enable the country to experience economic development. A country with enough capital, manpower and other natural resources can still be poor if it does not have competent managers to combine and coordinate the resources efficiently and effectively.
In light of the rationales stated above, contents of this curriculum have been determined on the basis of previously done curricula, based on survey, benchmarking and information inputs gained from resources provided by the Ministry of Education on curriculum development.
