Kanenus College previously called kanenus TVET College was founded in 2014 in Assela town of Oromia regional state, Ethiopia by entrepreneur Admasu Diriba Gari aspiring to narrow the gap of access to education in the town and surrounding area. The College had its beginning as a private higher education institution where it only opened in TVET program. The Oromiya Trade and market Development bureau officially registered Kanenus as a PLC under registration No. WDMG/0014/2006 on 4-11-2006E.C with License No.92/92/50/01 and Tin No. 0007059342.
Prior to its foundation, need assessment was conducted to identify the fields of study demanded around Asella town. On the basis of the finding, the first accreditation by Oromia TVET commission was earned in the year 2015.
In 2017 the entrepreneur founded a sister company Kanenus Garment to create job opportunity for students graduating from the college and other institutions.
In September 2018 the institution was accredited by higher education relevance and quality agency to offer degree programs in three departments(Accounting and Finance, Business Management and Computer Science).
